Description

These classic 7 Layer Bars combine a buttery graham cracker crust with layers of sweetened condensed milk, butterscotch and chocolate chips, coconut, and pecans for a rich, indulgent treat. Perfect for parties or a simple dessert, they bake up golden and gooey, then cool into perfect squares.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1ยฝ cups graham cracker crumbs
  • ยฝ cup salted butter, melted

Layers

  • 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1โ…“ cups flaked coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF. Lightly coat a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray and line it with parchment paper, allowing the paper to hang over the edges for easy removal of the bars later.
  2. Make Crust: Mix the graham cracker crumbs with melted butter thoroughly. Press this mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust.
  3. Add Sweetened Condensed Milk: Evenly drizzle the sweetened condensed milk over the graham cracker crust as the first layer of sweetness and moisture.
  4. Layer Remaining Ingredients: Sprinkle the butterscotch chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips, flaked coconut, and chopped pecans in that order over the sweetened condensed milk. Spread each ingredient evenly and press down gently with a fork to compress the layers slightly.
  5. Bake: Bake the layered bars in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, until the top turns lightly golden and bubbly.
  6. Cool and Cut: While still warm, loosen the edges of the bars from the pan using the parchment paper overhang. Transfer the pan to a wire rack and allow the bars to cool completely. Once cooled, cut into 24 squares using a sharp knife.

Notes

  • Using parchment paper makes removing the bars much easier and keeps the pan clean.
  • Pressing the layers gently with a fork helps prevent ingredients from shifting during baking.
  • Letting the bars cool completely before cutting ensures they hold together well and don’t crumble.
  • You can substitute pecans with walnuts if preferred.
  • Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
