Description

This classic 7 Layer Dip is a delicious and colorful appetizer perfect for parties and gatherings. It layers refried beans, creamy guacamole, tangy sour cream mixed with taco seasoning, chunky salsa, shredded cheese, fresh lettuce, black olives, roma tomatoes, and green onions to create a crowd-pleasing dish served chilled with tortilla chips.

Ingredients

Scale

Base Layer

  • 32 ounces (2 16-ounce cans) refried beans (Old El Paso brand)
  • 3 tablespoons water

Guacamole Layer

  • 1½ cups premade mild guacamole (Freshness Guaranteed, Walmart brand)

Sour Cream Layer

  • 2 cups sour cream
  • 1 ounce packet mild taco seasoning (Great Value brand)

Salsa Layer

  • 16 ounces chunky mild salsa (Pace brand), drained

Toppings

  • 2 cups shredded lettuce
  • 2 cups pre-shredded fiesta blend cheese (Great Value brand)
  • 2.25 ounces sliced black olives (Mario brand), well drained
  • 1 cup chopped roma tomatoes, excess juice drained
  • ½ cup thinly sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare Beans: In a small mixing bowl, combine the canned refried beans with 3 tablespoons of water. Stir thoroughly until smooth and evenly mixed to achieve a spreadable consistency.
  2. Spread Beans: Using a silicone or offset spatula, evenly spread the refried bean mixture across the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish to form the first layer.
  3. Add Guacamole Layer: Evenly spread the premade mild guacamole over the refried beans layer, creating a smooth, consistent second layer.
  4. Mix Sour Cream and Seasoning: In a small bowl, whisk together the sour cream and the packet of mild taco seasoning until fully combined, creating a flavorful third layer.
  5. Spread Sour Cream Mixture: Spread the sour cream and seasoning mixture evenly over the guacamole layer.
  6. Drain Salsa and Add: Drain the chunky mild salsa in a mesh strainer to remove excess liquid, then spread the salsa evenly over the sour cream layer.
  7. Add Cheese Layer: Sprinkle the shredded fiesta blend cheese evenly over the salsa layer.
  8. Add Lettuce: Evenly sprinkle the shredded lettuce over the cheese layer to add freshness and crunch.
  9. Add Black Olives: Distribute the well-drained sliced black olives evenly over the lettuce layer for a briny bite.
  10. Add Tomatoes: Evenly sprinkle the chopped roma tomatoes over the olives. Use a paper towel to pat excess juice from tomatoes beforehand to prevent sogginess.
  11. Add Green Onions and Chill: Finally, sprinkle the thinly sliced green onions over the tomatoes. Cover the dish tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour to allow flavors to meld before serving with tortilla chips.

Notes

  • Ensure to drain salsa and tomatoes to prevent excess liquid from making the dip soggy.
  • Use fresh ingredients for best flavor and texture.
  • This dip is best served chilled and can be prepared up to a few hours ahead of time.
  • Use a clear glass 9×13 inch dish for an attractive presentation of the colorful layers.
  • Pair with your favorite tortilla chips for dipping.
