Ingredients
Scale
Meat
- 1 package (10 ounces) bacon
Bakery
- 6 to 7 large croissants (already baked croissants, not dough)
Dairy & Eggs
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup shredded white cheddar (divided)
- 1 cup shredded mild cheddar cheese (divided)
Spices & Herbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3 Tablespoons chopped chives
Instructions
- Prepare Bacon: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a large sheet pan with foil. Arrange bacon strips in a single layer and bake for 12 to 14 minutes until crispy. Remove bacon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess grease. Chop into pieces and set aside.
- Toast Croissants: Lower oven temperature to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray. Tear croissants into small pieces and spread evenly in the dish. Toast croissant pieces in the oven for 10 minutes to lightly crisp.
- Mix Egg Casserole Base: In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and half of each shredded cheddar cheese. Pour this mixture evenly over the toasted croissant pieces in the pan.
- Add Bacon and Cheese Topping: Evenly distribute the chopped bacon pieces over the egg mixture, then sprinkle with the remaining cheddar cheeses.
- Bake the Casserole: Bake immediately at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes or until the eggs are fully set. Alternatively, cover and refrigerate overnight before baking the next day.
- Serve: Garnish with chopped chives and serve warm for a delicious breakfast or brunch dish.
Notes
- Use fully baked croissants, not raw dough, for best texture.
- You can prepare the casserole the night before and bake fresh in the morning for easy meal prep.
- Adjust cheese varieties to your preference; smoked cheddar can add a nice smoky flavor.
- For a lower fat option, substitute turkey bacon and low-fat milk.
- Keep an eye on the baking towards the end to avoid overcooking the eggs.
