Description

Brazilian Lemonade is a refreshing and creamy citrus drink made by blending whole limes with cold water, sugar, and sweetened condensed milk. Despite its name, it uses limes instead of lemons, resulting in a uniquely tangy and sweet flavor perfect for hot days or as a delightful beverage for gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 6 cups cold water (preferably filtered or purified)
  • 5 limes (cut into wedges, whole with skin)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk (or more to taste)
  • Ice (as needed)
  • Fresh lime slices (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Blend the Limes: Add the 5 lime wedges (whole with skin), 6 cups of cold water, and 1/2 cup granulated sugar to a blender. Blend the mixture until smooth and the lime wedges are thoroughly broken down, ensuring the citrus oils from the peel are incorporated.
  2. Strain the Mixture: Place a fine mesh strainer over a large bowl and pour the blended mixture through it. Use a spoon to press and extract as much liquid as possible from the pulp and lime pieces. Discard the remaining solids to avoid bitterness.
  3. Blend with Sweetened Condensed Milk: Rinse the blender to remove lime residue, then pour the strained lime juice back into it. Add 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk and blend again until the drink is frothy and fully combined, lending a creamy texture and a rich sweetness.
  4. Serve: Fill glasses with ice, pour the Brazilian lemonade over the ice, and garnish with fresh lime slices if desired. Serve immediately while cold and frothy for the best flavor and refreshing experience.

Notes

  • Blending the whole limes including the peel gives a distinctive bitter note characteristic of traditional Brazilian lemonade.
  • Adjust the amount of sweetened condensed milk to suit your desired sweetness and creaminess.
  • Use filtered or purified water for the best-tasting lemonade.
  • Serve immediately after preparation to enjoy the frothy texture and fresh flavor.
  • You can substitute sweetened condensed milk with heavy cream and sugar mixture if preferred, but it will alter the flavor.
