Description

A savory and sweet side dish featuring caramelized Brussels sprouts perfectly coated in rich, flavorful bacon jam. This recipe offers a delightful combination of crispy, tender sprouts and smoky-sweet jam, cooked quickly on the stovetop for an easy yet impressive addition to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Brussels Sprouts

  • 1 pound Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ยฝ teaspoon salt
  • ยฝ teaspoon ground black pepper

Bacon Jam

  • ยฝ cup bacon jam (prepared separately, recipe linked)

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil: Warm 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking.
  2. Add Brussels sprouts cut side down: Place the trimmed and halved Brussels sprouts in the skillet with their cut side touching the pan to ensure better caramelization.
  3. Caramelize sprouts undisturbed: Let the Brussels sprouts cook without stirring for 6 to 8 minutes to develop a deep golden-brown crust.
  4. Season and stir: Sprinkle salt and ground black pepper over the sprouts, then stir to combine and continue cooking for another 6 to 8 minutes until tender and caramelized on all sides.
  5. Toss with bacon jam and finish: Add ยฝ cup of bacon jam to the skillet, toss the Brussels sprouts thoroughly to coat them with the jam, and cook for an additional 3 to 5 minutes on the stove. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Make sure the skillet is hot before adding the Brussels sprouts to achieve optimal caramelization.
  • Use a cast-iron skillet if possible for even heat distribution and enhanced browning.
  • Bacon jam can be prepared ahead of time or purchased for convenience.
  • Serve as a side dish alongside roasted meats or as part of a holiday feast.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stove.
