Ingredients
Scale
Cinnamon Rolls
- 2 cans refrigerated cinnamon rolls with icing
Custard Mixture
- 6 large eggs
- 0.5 cup milk
- 0.5 cup heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 0.25 cup maple syrup
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Cinnamon Rolls: Open the cinnamon roll tubes and cut each roll into quarters. Spread these pieces evenly in the prepared baking dish to form the base layer.
- Mix Custard: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and maple syrup until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Pour Custard Over Rolls: Pour the custard mixture evenly over the cinnamon roll pieces. Gently press the pieces down slightly to help them soak up the custard.
- Rest: Let the assembled casserole sit for 10 minutes. This allows the cinnamon rolls to absorb the custard, resulting in a moist and flavorful bake.
- Cover and Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. This initial covered baking helps set the custard without drying out the top.
- Uncover and Finish Baking: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes or until the casserole is golden brown on top and fully set in the middle.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Drizzle the icing that came with the cinnamon rolls over the top before serving warm for a deliciously sweet finish.
Notes
- Allowing the casserole to rest before baking improves custard absorption and texture.
- Use a toothpick or knife to check if the casserole is set in the center before removing from the oven.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute milk and cream with almond or oat milk and use dairy-free cinnamon rolls if available.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated gently in the microwave or oven.
