Description

Coquito is a rich and creamy Puerto Rican holiday drink made from a blend of evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, cream of coconut, and coconut milk, infused with warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, and optionally spiked with white rum. This festive beverage is served chilled, perfect for celebrations and cozy gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Milk Mixtures

  • 12 oz evaporated milk
  • 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 15 oz cream of coconut
  • 13.5 oz coconut milk

Flavorings & Additions

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 to 1 cup white rum (optional)
  • Ground nutmeg (optional, for garnish)
  • Cinnamon sticks (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Blend liquids: Add the evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, cream of coconut, and coconut milk into a blender. Blend until fully smooth to create the creamy base of the Coquito.
  2. Add spices and rum: Pour in the vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and white rum if using. Blend again briefly just to combine all the flavors evenly.
  3. Chill the mixture: Transfer the blended mixture into a pitcher or sealable bottles. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or preferably overnight to allow the flavors to meld and the drink to chill thoroughly.
  4. Serve and garnish: Shake the Coquito well before serving to mix settled ingredients. Pour into small glasses and garnish each serving with a cinnamon stick and a sprinkle of ground nutmeg or cinnamon for extra aroma and festive look.

Notes

  • You can adjust the rum quantity based on your desired alcohol strength or omit it for a non-alcoholic version.
  • Use cream of coconut (like Coco Lรณpez) for authentic sweetness and texture, not just coconut cream.
  • Coquito tastes best after chilling overnight as the flavors develop more depth.
  • Shake well before serving since some ingredients may settle during refrigeration.
  • Store Coquito refrigerated and consume within 5 days for best quality.
