  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu: Sandwich the block of extra firm tofu between paper towels and place two plates on top. Apply pressure by placing a heavy object, such as a 28 oz can, on the top plate. Let it press for at least 30 minutes to remove excess moisture, which is essential for achieving crispiness.
  2. Preheat the air fryer: Set your air fryer to 200°C (390°F) and allow it to heat up while you prepare the tofu, ensuring an even and quick cook.
  3. Cut the tofu: Remove the pressed tofu and cut it into cubes about 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch in size. Uniform pieces help to cook the tofu evenly.
  4. Coat the tofu with oil and cornstarch: Toss the tofu cubes in the avocado oil so each piece is lightly coated. Next, add the cornstarch and toss again to create a crispy outer layer during cooking.
  5. Season the tofu: Sprinkle the paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, and salt over the tofu cubes. Toss well to ensure every piece is evenly coated with the flavorful spices.
  6. Cook in the air fryer: Place the seasoned tofu cubes in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 13 minutes at 200°C (390°F), shaking the basket every 5 minutes to encourage even browning and crispiness on all sides.
  7. Check for doneness: The tofu should be firm and crispy on the outside while remaining tender inside. Remember that the tofu’s texture will harden slightly as it cools.
