Ingredients
Scale
Vegetables
- ½ cup broccoli florets
- 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes with basil, garlic, and oregano, drained
Bread & Protein
- 3 slices whole wheat bread, cubed
- 8 slices deli-style protein, shredded
- ¼ cup shredded pepper jack cheese
Egg Mixture
- 4 eggs
- ¼ cup heavy whipping cream
- 1½ teaspoons garlic powder
- Salt and ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch square casserole dish to prevent sticking.
- Steam Broccoli: Fill a saucepan with water below a steamer insert and bring it to a boil. Place the broccoli florets in the steamer, cover, and steam until tender, about 2 to 4 minutes. Remove and set aside.
- Combine Main Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the steamed broccoli, cubed whole wheat bread, drained diced tomatoes, shredded deli-style protein, and shredded pepper jack cheese evenly.
- Prepare Egg Mixture: In a separate bowl, beat together the eggs, heavy whipping cream, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until fully combined.
- Mix Ingredients: Pour the egg mixture into the bowl with the broccoli mixture, stirring gently to combine all ingredients thoroughly.
- Assemble in Dish: Transfer the combined mixture into the greased casserole dish. Spread it out evenly to ensure even baking.
- Bake: Place the casserole dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 35 minutes, or until the eggs are fully set in the center and the top is lightly golden.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for 3 to 5 minutes. Slice into portions and serve warm.
Notes
- You can substitute the deli-style protein with cooked sausage, bacon, or a vegetarian alternative.
- For a dairy-free version, replace the heavy cream with coconut milk or a plant-based cream alternative and omit the cheese.
- Make sure to drain the canned tomatoes thoroughly to avoid excess moisture that could make the strata soggy.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
- Adding fresh herbs like parsley or chives can enhance the flavor.
