Ingredients
Scale
Fudge Base
- 3 cups granulated sugar
- 1 (5-ounce) can evaporated milk (about 2/3 cup)
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter (12 tablespoons)
- 1/3 cup peanut butter (creamy or crunchy)
Additional Ingredients
- 1 (10-ounce) package peanut butter chips
- 1 (7-ounce) jar marshmallow creme
- 1/4 cup salted peanuts (optional, chopped)
Instructions
- Prepare the baking dish: Butter an 8×8-inch baking dish or spray it with nonstick cooking spray, then set it aside to use later for the fudge.
- Cook the sugar mixture: In a medium-sized, heavy pot, combine the granulated sugar, evaporated milk, and unsalted butter. Place over medium heat and stir frequently until the mixture comes to a full boil.
- Boil to soft ball stage: Continue boiling the mixture for about 5 minutes while stirring constantly. Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature and ensure it reaches the soft ball stage, which is 235°F (113°C).
- Add peanut butter and mix-ins: Remove the pot from heat immediately after reaching the correct temperature. Stir in the peanut butter, peanut butter chips, and the marshmallow creme. Mix thoroughly until the fudge becomes creamy and smooth. If using, add the chopped salted peanuts now and stir well, reserving a few to sprinkle on top.
- Set the fudge: Pour the hot fudge mixture immediately into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the reserved peanuts on top if desired. Allow the fudge to cool completely at room temperature until it firms up, then cut into squares.
- Store properly: Place the fudge pieces in an airtight container to maintain freshness and softness. Store at room temperature or in the refrigerator depending on your preference.
Notes
- Using a candy thermometer is essential to achieve the right consistency for fudge.
- Peanut butter can be creamy or crunchy based on your texture preference.
- If you prefer a less sweet fudge, consider using natural peanut butter and adjusting sugar accordingly.
- Store fudge in an airtight container to prevent it from drying out.
- Fudge can be refrigerated for longer shelf life but may become firmer; let it come to room temperature before serving for best texture.
