Description

These heart-shaped chicken nuggets are a fun and delicious twist on a classic favorite, perfect for family meals or special occasions. Made with tender chicken breast pieces coated in seasoned flour, egg, and crispy breadcrumbs, then baked to golden perfection in the oven. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces for a delightful treat everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Coatings

  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
  • ½ cup flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten

Seasonings

  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Other

  • Cooking spray or oil, for baking

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Set Up the Breading Station: In one bowl, mix together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Place the beaten eggs in a second bowl. In a third bowl, place the breadcrumbs.
  3. Coat the Chicken: Take each chicken piece and first coat it thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture. Then dip it into the beaten eggs, ensuring it is fully covered. Finally, roll the chicken piece in the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to make sure the coating sticks well.
  4. Shape the Nuggets: Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to form the coated chicken pieces into heart shapes. If you don’t have a cutter, you can carefully shape the pieces into small hearts by hand. Arrange the shaped nuggets on the prepared baking sheet and spray them lightly with cooking spray or brush with a little oil to help them crisp during baking.
  5. Bake the Nuggets: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes. Flip the nuggets halfway through baking to brown both sides evenly and ensure they are cooked through and golden brown.
  6. Serve: Remove the nuggets from the oven and serve warm with your choice of dipping sauces such as ketchup, honey mustard, or barbecue sauce for a tasty meal or snack.

Notes

  • Using panko breadcrumbs will give the nuggets a crispier texture compared to regular breadcrumbs.
  • Make sure chicken pieces are cut evenly so they cook uniformly.
  • Flipping the nuggets halfway through baking helps achieve an even golden crust.
  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the flour mixture.
  • Ensure the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) for food safety.
