Description

This Instant Pot Beef and Cheddar Sandwiches recipe features tender, thinly sliced beef cooked to perfection with savory seasonings, topped with a creamy, spicy cheddar cheese sauce. Served on toasted buttered onion buns, these hearty sandwiches are perfect for a quick, delicious meal that feeds the whole family.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef and Seasoning

  • 2 pounds boneless beef top round roast, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup reduced-sodium beef broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Buns

  • 8 onion hamburger buns, buttered and toasted

Spicy Cheese Sauce

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups grated cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef: In the Instant Pot’s pressure cooking pot, combine thinly sliced beef, reduced-sodium beef broth, garlic powder, salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Secure the lid tightly.
  2. Pressure Cook the Beef: Choose the High Pressure setting and set cook time for 10 minutes. When cooking completes, turn off the cooker and allow natural pressure release for 10 minutes, then carefully perform a quick release to unlock the lid.
  3. Make the Cheese Sauce: Meanwhile, melt unsalted butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add flour, stirring frequently until bubbling. Gradually whisk in milk until the mixture thickens and smooths. Stir in hot sauce and salt, then add grated cheddar cheese in handfuls, stirring constantly until melted and creamy. Remove from heat.
  4. Assemble and Serve: Butter and toast onion hamburger buns. Place a generous portion of cooked beef on each toasted bun, then ladle creamy cheese sauce over the meat. Serve sandwiches immediately while warm.

Notes

  • For best results, slice the beef as thinly as possible for tender sandwiches.
  • Use reduced-sodium broth to better control saltiness in the dish.
  • Adjust hot sauce quantity in the cheese sauce to suit your preferred spice level.
  • Butter the buns before toasting to add extra flavor and crispness.
  • Allow natural pressure release to enhance the tenderness of the beef.
