Description
Philly Cheesesteak Dip is a creamy, cheesy appetizer inspired by the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich. It combines tender roast beef, sautéed onions and bell peppers, and a blend of cream cheese, sour cream, mozzarella, and provolone cheeses, baked to a hot, bubbly perfection. Perfect for parties or casual gatherings, this dip pairs wonderfully with baguette slices, tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh veggies.
Ingredients
Scale
Meat
- 1 lb roast beef deli meat (sliced and chopped into ¼ inch pieces)
Vegetables
- 1 medium onion (diced)
- 1 large green bell pepper (chopped)
- Fresh parsley (finely chopped)
- Green onion (sliced)
Dairy
- 1 tbsp butter
- 8 ounces cream cheese (1 brick, 250 grams, room temperature)
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
- 8 slices provolone cheese (chopped into ¼ inch pieces)
Seasonings
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper (or to taste)
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare dish: Preheat oven to 375℉ degrees. Grease an oven-safe baking dish or skillet with cooking spray and set aside.
- Sauté vegetables: Melt 1 tbsp butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for 4-5 minutes until lightly caramelized. Add the chopped green bell pepper and cook for another 2-3 minutes until tender, stirring occasionally.
- Mix cheeses: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded mozzarella, and chopped provolone cheese. Stir until evenly blended.
- Add roast beef and vegetables: Stir the chopped roast beef, sautéed onions, sautéed peppers, salt, and black pepper into the cheese mixture until fully combined. Optionally, reserve 1 tbsp of the beef and vegetable mixture for garnish.
- Assemble dip: Spread the dip evenly into the prepared baking dish or skillet. Optionally, sprinkle the reserved beef and vegetables on top as a garnish.
- Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until hot and bubbly. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for another 2-3 minutes to lightly brown the top.
- Garnish and serve: Sprinkle with finely chopped fresh parsley and sliced green onions. Serve immediately with sliced baguette, tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables for dipping.
Notes
- Use deli-style roast beef sliced thinly for the best texture and flavor. If preferred, you can substitute with cooked steak strips.
- Room temperature cream cheese softens easily and blends more smoothly in the mixture.
- Feel free to customize the cheese blend; Swiss cheese can replace provolone if desired.
- For a spicier dip, add a dash of hot sauce or red pepper flakes to the cheese mixture before baking.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
