Description

This Philly Cheesesteak Dip is a creamy, cheesy appetizer packed with tender roast beef, sautéed onions and green bell peppers, and a blend of melted cheeses. Perfect for parties or game day, it combines the classic flavors of a Philly cheesesteak sandwich into a warm, irresistible dip.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb roast beef deli meat, sliced and chopped into ¼ inch pieces
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 large green bell pepper, chopped
  • 8 oz cream cheese (1 brick, room temperature)
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 8 slices provolone cheese, chopped into ¼ inch pieces (or substitute with 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese)
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper (or to taste)
  • Fresh parsley, finely chopped (for garnish)
  • Green onion, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease an oven-safe baking dish or skillet with cooking spray and set it aside to prepare the dip mixture.
  2. Sauté Vegetables: Melt 1 tbsp of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for 4-5 minutes until they start to caramelize lightly. Add the chopped green bell pepper and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the peppers soften, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  3. Combine Cheeses and Cream: In a medium-sized bowl, add the softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded mozzarella, and chopped provolone cheese. Stir them together until the mixture is smooth and cheeses are fully combined.
  4. Add Roast Beef and Vegetables: To the cheese mixture, add the chopped roast beef, sautéed onions and peppers, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything thoroughly for even distribution. Optional: reserve 1 tablespoon of the roast beef and cooked vegetables for garnish on top.
  5. Transfer and Garnish: Spread the dip evenly into the prepared baking dish or skillet. If desired, sprinkle the reserved roast beef and vegetables over the top as a garnish.
  6. Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes until the dip is heated through and bubbly. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 2-3 minutes to lightly brown the top.
  7. Serve: Garnish the hot dip with fresh chopped parsley and sliced green onions. Serve immediately with sliced baguette, tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables for dipping.

Notes

  • You can substitute provolone cheese with mozzarella or Swiss cheese if preferred.
  • Use freshly chopped roast beef deli meat for best texture, or finely chop leftover roast beef.
  • Adjust pepper and salt to taste depending on your roast beef’s seasoning.
  • For extra heat, consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes while sautéing the vegetables.
  • Serve immediately for best flavor and texture, as the cheese dip may thicken as it cools.
