Description

This Quick & Easy Blackened Shrimp recipe delivers a spicy, flavorful seafood dish ready in just 15 minutes. Perfect for a weeknight dinner or appetizer, the shrimp are coated in a bold mix of Cajun spices and quickly seared in a skillet to create a delicious charred crust. Serve with a tangy remoulade sauce for an extra kick.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp and Spice Mix

  • 1 pound raw shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 1 clove garlic (minced)
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

Cooking

  • 1-2 tablespoons olive oil

Optional Sauce

  • Remoulade sauce made from mayonnaise, whole grain mustard, capers, horseradish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the spice mix and shrimp: In a mixing bowl, combine the minced garlic, paprika, Cajun seasoning, salt, cayenne pepper, cumin, thyme, black pepper, and onion powder. Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the bowl, tossing thoroughly to coat each shrimp evenly with the spice mixture.
  2. Heat the skillet and cook shrimp: Place a skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Once the oil is hot and shimmering, arrange the shrimp in a single layer without overcrowding. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on one side until the shrimp turn pink and develop a charred crust, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes on the other side until fully cooked.
  3. Serve and enjoy: Remove the shrimp from the skillet immediately to prevent overcooking. Serve hot with the optional remoulade sauce for dipping or enjoy them as they are for a bold, spicy treat.

Notes

  • Ensure not to overcrowd the skillet to allow proper searing and char on the shrimp.
  • Adjust cayenne pepper amount according to your preferred spice level.
  • For a gluten-free option, ensure Cajun seasoning and remoulade sauce ingredients are gluten-free.
  • Shrimp cook very quickly; watch carefully to avoid overcooking.
  • Remoulade sauce can be prepared ahead to save time.
