Ingredients
Scale
Crust
- 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
Sausage Gravy
- 0.5 pound ground breakfast sausage
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 0.75 cup whole milk
- 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
Toppings
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 0.5 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- Chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Crust: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or sheet pan to prevent sticking. Unroll the crescent roll dough and press it evenly into the prepared dish, making sure to seal all seams to form a solid crust. Bake the crust for 8 minutes until it becomes lightly golden.
- Cook Sausage: While the crust is baking, heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground breakfast sausage and cook until browned and crumbled, stirring occasionally. Do not drain the grease as it will be used to make the gravy.
- Make Sausage Gravy: Sprinkle the all-purpose flour evenly over the cooked sausage in the skillet. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly to cook the flour. Slowly whisk in the whole milk to the sausage mixture, stirring continuously until the gravy thickens, about 3 to 5 minutes. Season with black pepper to taste.
- Assemble Pizza: Spread the hot sausage gravy evenly over the pre-baked crescent roll crust, covering it completely.
- Add Cheese Toppings: Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the sausage gravy, followed by shredded mozzarella cheese for a deliciously melty topping.
- Bake Until Melty: Return the assembled pizza to the oven and bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted and bubbly.
- Garnish and Serve: Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven and optionally garnish with freshly chopped parsley. Let it cool slightly, then cut into 12 squares and serve warm.
Notes
- Using refrigerated crescent roll dough gives a quick and flaky crust without the need for homemade dough.
- Do not drain the sausage grease as it is used to create the flavorful gravy.
- For a spicier kick, add crushed red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper to the sausage gravy.
- Fresh parsley adds a lovely color and freshness but is optional.
- You can substitute whole milk with 2% for a lighter option, though the gravy may be slightly less creamy.
